Dungeons and Dragons: Starter Set Heroes of The Borderlands

The Heroes of the borderlands starter set is pretty great. A large cardboard box that is well made for storage. It has the rule books set up into 4 easily read and understood mini books. Great player character boards, easy to use. A bunch of cards, I was on the fence about these cards until I used them in a game introducing new players, it made it easy for them, to hold something in their hands while looking at the great art. It drew them into the game more. That is another thing, the art is great! A Huge amount of maps for the game, making all encounters easy to track and see on the table. A decent amount of cardboard monster tokens and character tokens ready to play out of the box, with plastic bags for the tokens, a good plastic tray to store them in with slots for all the cards. Player handouts for clues and shop items are good. A decent set of dice, 11 total. a pad of combat tracker sheets as well. My only complaint is, not having a paper and pencil option to fill out the characters on sheets. The game is based on the Keep of The Borderlands from the 1981 and 1983 basic sets, it holds pretty true to the original Gygax module B2. I'm still having a hard time that this new D&D, that has no Orc enemies? That is only because I'm as old as the hills, the box set is good and a great way to start people off into the D&D world. Or even a nice trip down memory lane for us old folks. I'm happy as a, old set in his ways man and would be delighted as a kid to play this. So, a win in my book. Good buy!
